Imaginal Nurturing - I`m So Glad You`re Here!
April Steele
$18.00

Description

With "I`m So Glad You`re Here!", you have the opportunity for an experience of gentle nurturing. With my voice to guide you, you are able to meet yourself afresh as the infant who came into this world whole and gifted. The infant here is a representation of the core of who you really are. This recording is not about healing the wounded child but rather helping you to develop a new relationship with yourself in the present.

There are two imageries provided. In "Getting to Know You", you are invited to hold in your imagination this young baby and to spend some time becoming acquainted with each other. "Taking it in" gives you the opportunity to provide nourishment for the infant. In both cases, you have the experience of the infant being held and nurtured as well as that of the nurturing adult. These scripts are interwoven with the beautiful, clear singing voice of Jen Turner.

These recordings were developed in response to requests from clients to have something they could use at home to gain more nurturing experience between sessions. They supplement very nicely Imaginal Nurturing work in therapy and allow the client to move forward that much more quickly and solidly in their work. There is no bilateral stimulation in these recordings. They may be used over and over, each time providing a different experience. In keeping with the principles of Imaginal Nurturing, there is an emphasis on the felt body sense of the experience.

For those who are not in therapy but are interested in trying these tapes, please go to the link on Imaginal Nurturing and note that this work may bring up any unresolved issues around abortions, or loss of children. I encourage you to find a therapist to work with if you are needing help in dealing with any such issues. While these tapes can provide very positive experiences for those who have suffered from emotional abuse and neglect as children, they are not a substitute for therapy when that is needed.

Because of the gender-specific nature of our language, there are two volumes, one for women and one for men. They are substantially the same in other respects. Because they induce a state of relaxation and inward focus, these recordings should not be used while driving.†

About the Author

April Steele is a psychotherapist in private practice with offices in Nanaimo and Gabriola, British Columbia (which is the most westerly province in Canada). Her Master`s degree is from the College of Family and Consumer Studies at the University of Guelph. She also has a Master`s-level diploma from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute, is a registered art therapist and a past president of the BC Art Therapy Association. Certified by EMDRIA (the EMDR International Association), and an EMDRIA-approved consultant, she has been an active participant on the professional EMDR discussion list since 1998. As an EMDRIA credit provider, she offers training workshops in Imaginal Nurturing. My experience includes work in sexual abuse programs in Nanaimo and Vancouver, as well as at a mental health centre and an alcohol and drug program.

In specializing in working with adults with histories of abuse and neglect, she has become especially interested in attachment and the effects of early deficits. Imaginal Nurturing is an approach she has developed for working with clients with childhood histories of neglect, emotional abuse, and attachment issues. It utilizes guided imagery and EMDR to directly address these issues which cannot be resolved simply by reprocessing trauma. While she is continuing to refine Imaginal Nurturing, it is already being used in many countries around the world.
